GATS ist undemokratisch!
EU-Kommissar Pascal Lamy gegen Beteiligung von Parlamenten an den GATS-Verhandlungen
GATS : DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE
A NEW ASSAULT BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Brussels. Yesterday, Tuesday 28 January, EU Commissioner Pascal
Lamy announced that the EU Commission is opposed to the release
of the list of services that the Commission will propose for liberalisation
in the 15 European countries before the WTO will receive it on 31
March. The 15 national Parliaments will have the right to debate
the liberalisation of services in their own country when the decision
will be made. Not before. Up until then, the 15 governments, which
will receive the first dratf list on 6 February, will not receive
permission from the non elected EU Commission to share this list
with elected members of national and European Parliaments.
After the secrecy imposed on the requests to liberalise sent to
109 countries, the EU Commission want to impose the secrecy on the
liberalisation of services in our own countries, services that,
sometimes, were created as an expression of the will of elected
representatives and of national Parliaments.
There is an urgent need to oppose this insult to democracy. It is
the primary responsability of elected members of parliaments, of
members of legitimate governments to impose democracy.
MORE THAN EVER WE NEED TO BE TEN OF THOUSANDS IN BRUSSELS ON 9 FEBRUARY
REQUIRING :
- TRANSPARENCY AND DEMOCRATIC CONTROL
- A MORATORIUM ON GATS NEGOTIATIONS
- A CLEAR DEFINITION OF PUBLIC SERVICES
- PUBLIC SERVICES AS DEFINED OUT OF GATS
- A REVISION OF THE EU COMMISSION MANDATE
